Each year we stage our Annual Sorrento Rotary Club Sorrento Art Show at Sorrento Primary School, 32 Kerferd Avenue, Sorrento VIC 3943. This year, 2025, we celebrate over four significant decades of our highly respected art show. This event is an integral part in the vibrant fabric of the buoyant arts culture on the Mornington Peninsula, giving artists, new, emerging and established, a great opportunity to showcase their works.
Oils, watercolours, acrylics and ink contribute to a dynamic exhibition, giving enjoyment to those who traditionally attend and those coming for the first time, adding to the rich cultural life that one can experience in this community. There are diverse, wide ranging and unique works by leading artists, many of whom have won awards some of whom call the peninsula home.
Considered to be the most prestigious art event on the southern peninsula, the first was held in 1984 in the small local hall in Queens Road, Sorrento, raising a magnificent $350.00. In a just a few years the exhibition developed outgrowing the space. Subsequently the show was relocated to the Sorrento Community Centre in 2003, with a special show celebrating the 150th anniversary of Victoria. In the past years over 800 entries are received each year for viewing and for sale from local and interstate artists.
The Art Show is one of a number of projects of the Rotary Club of Sorrento. We also have an annual Sports Luncheon, Golf Day and our Sausage Sizzles. We also have minor Fundraisers. In 2019 we distributed over $115,000 to worthy causes with 90% of these funds going to local community charities and the balance supporting International projects such as the eradication of Polio, providing fresh drinking water in overseas remote developing countries, education and many others.
Each year we appoint a distinguished artist to act as our Judge of Award winning art and we have a number of feature artists. Details are available on this web site.
Corporate and business sponsors are of immeasurable value to our club and the operation of our Art Show. We thank them sincerely and publish their details throughout our pages.
